2027 Winter Workshops:

  • January 10, 2027 – January 16, 2027
  • February 21, 2027 – February 27, 2027

Join local wildlife photographer Kyle Moon for an immersive multi-day photography workshop in Yellowstone National Park. Kyle will help you make the most of every moment in the field—seeking out the best light, the most compelling wildlife encounters, and the landscapes that define Yellowstone in winter. Whether you’re just getting comfortable behind the camera or looking to refine your craft, Kyle offers practical guidance in the field to help you strengthen your skills and capture images that tell a powerful story of this remarkable ecosystem.

Yellowstone has been geologically shaped into two very different landscapes: the Yellowstone Caldera (the Interior) and the Northern Range. Both regions, deeply influenced by volcanic forces, offer exceptional opportunities to photograph wildlife and dramatic scenery found nowhere else on Earth.

Northern Range
Two and a half days of the workshop will focus on the wildlife-rich valleys of Yellowstone’s Northern Range. Traveling primarily by road, we’ll search for bison, elk, deer, moose, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, foxes, coyotes, eagles—and, with some luck, wolves. Our comfortable vehicles provide space for your gear and allow us to move quickly between locations while giving you time to set up for the shot when wildlife appears.

Interior
Another two days take us deep into the park’s interior aboard a privately chartered snowcoach. Crossing the snow-covered landscape, we’ll explore a winter world of geysers, steaming hot springs, and frozen waterfalls. Old Faithful’s eruptions and the colorful walls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone offer unforgettable landscape photography opportunities along the way. Routes may shift as wildlife sightings and conditions evolve.

With small groups, private transportation, and plenty of time in the field, this workshop offers a relaxed and rewarding way to photograph Yellowstone while learning directly from Kyle. It’s an opportunity to embrace the solitude of the winter season while capturing the remarkable story of survival unfolding before us.

I cannot recommend Yellowstone Wild and Kyle Moon highly enough

Kyle Moon did an incredible job guiding our group to a variety of wildlife hotspots, and it truly paid off. We hiked out to capture unique angles of moose and trekked uphill for better views of bighorn rams. Throughout it all, Kyle educated us on animal behavior and made sure every moment was handled ethically and safely — both for the group and the wildlife. Kyle provided excellent instruction on positioning, timing, and technique to help us capture amazing shots. He consistently coached us on composition, shared examples from his own camera, and called out helpful settings — shutter speed, ISO, and more — that gave us great reference points in the field. Overall, I cannot recommend Yellowstone Wild and Kyle Moon highly enough. If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience and memories that will last a lifetime, this is it.

This is the best photography workshop I've ever been on

I joined a small group guided by Kyle Moon for a winter photography workshop in Yellowstone. This was way more than a stand on the side of the road and take photos of wildlife trip. This was an immersive experience. Kyle has an innate ability to read the body language of animals, and anticipate how they will behave next, which allows you to move around (at a safe distance), lay on the ground, whatever it takes, to get THE BEST possible images . THIS is the best photography workshop I've ever been on. Thank you so much, Kyle!

The best wildlife guides for Yellowstone!

I went with Kyle Moon on 10/12 to look for owls, bears, and anything else we could find. Luck was on our side today as we saw a great grey owl AND a grizzly sow with cubs! Great greys have been on my wildlife bucketlist for years and it was amazing to finally see one! Kyle made sure I got the most out of my experience! Even as an experienced wildlife photographer, I learned so much from him during our tour. It made the experience so much better and I took some fantastic shots! I would highly recommend Yellowstone Wild and Kyle to anyone who not only is interested in wildlife but wants to up their photography game!
