The Best of Yellowstone: Wildlife at Sunrise and a Hike to Explore Yellowstone’s Treasures!

Our wildlife sightings are best in the crisp, cool early morning hours, when wildlife activity is best and Yellowstone is quiet, empty of park visitors, and wild! As the sun climbs toward midday, the temperatures increase, as does the number of park visitors, and animal activity drops off. We stop for a picnic and revel in the magical moments of our morning wildlife encounters. We discuss how animals live in this beautiful landscape and their relationships with the other animals and plants around them.

The rest of the day will be filled with a moderate hike of 2-5 miles, depending on everyone’s abilities and energy levels. Your guide will work with your group to determine the best hike based on interests and skills. You could follow developed trails or bushwhack off-trail to explore some unknown corner of Yellowstone’s vast wilderness. Your input helps us craft the tour that is best suited for you

Our hike may lead us to places where different animals choose to live and raise their young, and we stop to talk about why certain animals prefer to live in one place over another. Exploring a stream bank, we might find bird nests and animal tracks or even see where a beaver has been working! Something extraordinary happens in Yellowstone every day, and we welcome you to explore Yellowstone’s treasures with us.

I could not recommend this highly enough

We took the Wildlife Watching and Day Hiking combo with Matt. We had an excellent tour and a wonderful day. Matt was an awesome guide who made sure we had the best time possible. He was extremely knowledgeable of the park and wildlife. He tailored a hike to fit just what we wanted. I could not recommended this highly enough.

We learnt a lot!

My partner and I opted for the Wildlife Watching and Day Hiking Combo and spent our day with tour guide Rob. It was our first visit to Yellowstone and we wanted to get some expert advice on seeing wildlife safely and responsibly. For this, I cannot recommend Yellowstone Wild (and Rob) enough. We were able to see a wolf pack, elk, mountain goats, bison herds, a bison carcass, pronghorn, grizzly bears and (the icing on the cake) a black bear and her newborn cubs. The whole experience was phenomenal, the vehicle, viewing equipment and breakfast/lunch were exactly what was needed for the day. Rob was incredibly knowledgeable and had a clear passion for wildlife and the park - we learnt a lot! He knew exactly where to look to find our bucket list animals, without interfering with their habitat nor being surrounded by other park guest. We left feeling so fulfilled, I would recommend Yellowstone Wild to anyone looking for a great day out.

The highlight of our trip!

We had a super day with Ty. She was great and very entertaining with our multigenerational family and her love and enthusiasm of nature was evident. We did the half day wildlife watching and half day hiking. We saw so much more than we ever would have seen on our own and it was the highlight of our trip. In the morning we saw a mama bear and her two cubs, a wolf den and a young pup, an injured buffalo-that we surmised based on our observations- had just given birth and lost her calf probably to a wolf and was being protected and consoled by five bison cow “midwifes”, and later we spotted a grizzly. Our hike was beautiful and away from the crowds and included a generous picnic lunch. We saw elk protecting their young and a black bear.

Experience of a lifetime

Experience of a lifetime. We booked a wildlife tour, followed by a hike. Our day started at 5 AM with our guide picking us up at our hotel. Since the North entrance to the park is closed, having a guide is a must. Rob was ready and able to answer all our questions. He took us to see a grizzly bear feeding, wolves, and a heard of bison. The Yellowstone Wild network of guides keep each other informed so there is less guessing where the animals currently are located. After the wildlife viewing we did the northern loop. After lunch we did an off trail hike. We didn't know off trail hiking was possible but Rob took us to a spot where we could hike with no one around. We saw elk, marmots and deer up close. Normally when you hike the trails you see very little wildlife; not so off trail. Got to experience "complete silence" outdoors. Yellowstone Wild is a First Class operation. When we go back we will connect with them again. Third trip to Yellowstone, wish I had done this on the first.

Highly Recommend

We loved every part of it! Saw two wolf dens both with many puppies, a few different grizzlies and a couple had cubs, a mountain goat with a new tiny baby, a coyote pair with pups, a loon, a bald eagle, sandhill crane, and many bison, pronghorn and some other birds. Our guide, Aleksa, was so friendly and knowledgeable! So thankful how thoughtful Aleksa and Yellowstone Wild were by anticipating our snacking needs and remaining cognizant of our gluten allergy. We highly recommend the Wildlife Watching and Day Hiking Combo!
