  • Your own local wildlife guide

  • Optics for EVERYONE
  • Safe, fun and educational

Our wildlife sightings are best in the crisp cool early morning hours, when wildlife activity is best and Yellowstone is quiet, empty of park visitors and wild! As the sun climbs toward midday, the temperatures increase, as does the number of park visitors, and animal activity drops off. We stop for a picnic and revel in the magical moments from our morning’s encounters with wildlife. We discuss how animals live in this beautiful landscape and what their relationships are like with the other animals and plants around them.

A moderate hike of 2-5 miles, depending on everyone’s abilities and energy levels, will fill the rest of the day. Each hike will be planned specifically for your group, and could follow developed trails or bushwhack off trail to explore some unknown corner of Yellowstone’s vast wilderness. Your input helps us craft the tour best suited for you.

Our hike may lead us to places where different animals choose to live and raise their babies, and we stop to talk about why certain animals might live in one place over another. Exploring a stream bank, we might find bird nests, animal tracks, or even see where a beaver has been working. Something absolutely amazing is happening in Yellowstone every day, and we welcome you to explore Yellowstone’s treasures with us.

Seeing Yellowstone like I never have before

I have been to Yellowstone 7 times. This was the best wildlife experience I have ever had. We left well before sunrise to get cooler weather and our guide, Travis, drove us into the park in a very comfortable van. While we were driving, he gave us a natural history talk. Before the sun was up, we were watching wolves through the spotting scopes. We watched adults bring food to the pups, about 1/2 mile away. We enjoyed breakfast and coffee while watching the pack play. We also got a good look at a grizzly bear. We drove on and later spotted black bear, mountain goats, and a coyote, in addition to pronghorn antelope, elk, and bison. We hiked into the sage brush and had lunch near what’s left of the first wolf den in Yellowstone (no longer in use). Travis shared a wealth of knowledge about the animals, their habitats, geology, and insider tips about visiting Yellowstone. He was great and clearly tailored our tour to our interests. He asked great questions to stimulate our thinking. They provide the optics and those are great. My only regret is that we did this the last day of our visit to Yellowstone. We’ll definitely go with this company again.

Wolves, grizzly bears, rutting elk and a great day with a nice guy.

Our expectations were surpassed. Emil is a great guy who knows his stuff about the Park and its features as well as the animals that live in it. He also knows how to make the day's experience comfortable, exciting and memorable. Emil is that rare combination of interesting expert and genuinely nice guy. He asked us what we wanted to see and then he went about delivering it in a way that left us speechless. I’ll never forget the sight and sounds of the Wapiti Lake wolf pack forming up to chase a herd of elk across the Hayden Valley. We watched a young grizzly bear named Snow rip up and eat her lunch of tubers, and we watched and listened to bugling elk at the end of their rut. What a great day. What a great guy.

Unbelievable Experience!

Unbelievable experience with our guide Ty viewing wildlife and all the surrounding nature and beauty in Lamar Valley. Ty was a fantastic guide, so full of enthusiasm and very informative. You can tell she loves what she does and has such a passion for the wildlife and ecosystem of Yellowstone. Using her spotting scopes and high-powered binoculars made seeing the animals so much easier and having Ty and her team directing us to the right locations of these animals was great. We got to witness a wolf den and their pups frolicking around, lots of bison, a couple of black bear and bird watching. We then went to a beautiful overlook and decided to have our lunch there, which was also wonderful! Next Ty took us for a hike to a waterfall. While hiking we decided to go off trail a little and was able to explore the land a little more. We came across some skeletal remains from probably elk as well as shed elk antlers which was pretty cool! I would highly recommend Yellowstone Wild tours. It was definitely a highlight of our trip and we felt so lucky to have Ty as our guide.

A day in Yellowstone Park with Emil is one of the BEST days ever spent in nature

Emil's knowledge on so many wildlife and Park-related topics is topped by his sheer enthusiasm to share it with you. We had an amazing day - one of the best days I've ever had in nature without a backpack on and days deep in the woods. We experienced not just the beauty of Yellowstone's Lamar Valley but also the raw wild side of wolf pups scampering and playing in a meadow, bison in the heat of mating season, adult wolves gathering from a kill, a grizzly and her cubs crossing a river, a black bear and her cubs traversing through a forested area, goats sheltering from the heat in a cave. Lunch was awesome too - Would not visit the Park again without putting a day with Emil (Yellowstone Wild) on the schedule. Hope to be back in the WINTER!!!!

The highlight of our trip!

We had a super day with Ty. She was great and very entertaining with our multigenerational family and her love and enthusiasm of nature was evident. We did the half day wildlife watching and half day hiking. We saw so much more than we ever would have seen on our own and it was the highlight of our trip. In the morning we saw a mama bear and her two cubs, a wolf den and a young pup, an injured buffalo-that we surmised based on our observations- had just given birth and lost her calf probably to a wolf and was being protected and consoled by five bison cow “midwifes”, and later we spotted a grizzly. Our hike was beautiful and away from the crowds and included a generous picnic lunch. We saw elk protecting their young and a black bear.

Knowledgeable and friendly guides, a unique experience away from the crowds - really enjoyed it

My husband and I did a day hike (wildlife focus) tour with Yellowstone Wild. The owner Emil was one of our guides, as was Tyrene. Both were super knowledgeable, warm and friendly and personalized our trip to make it unique. We did some off-trail hiking, saw several different animals and breathtaking landscapes away from the crowds while respecting the land. We had great conversation, learned a ton, enjoyed lunch at a beautiful spot and explored the park in ways most people don’t get to! It was a really wonderful day, highly recommend!

One in a lifetime experience

We loved every part of it! Saw two wolf dens both with many puppies, a few different grizzlies and a couple had cubs, a mountain goat with a new tiny baby, a coyote pair with pups, a loon, a bald eagle, sandhill crane, and many bison, pronghorn and some other birds. Our guide, Aleksa, was so friendly and knowledgeable! So thankful how thoughtful Aleksa and Yellowstone Wild were by anticipating our snacking needs and remaining cognizant of our gluten allergy. We highly recommend the Wildlife Watching and Day Hiking Combo!

Wildlife Viewing

Our family of six did a wildlife viewing and day hike trip. Our guide was Kyle. We had a great day. Kyle was able to find grizzlies, black bears with cubs, black and grey wolves and lots of bison. He also picked a hike that fit all the age levels in our group. They provided hot drinks, great lunch, snacks and water. Highly recommend Yellowstone Wild and especially our guide, Kyle.
